The 11-member union, comprising president, vice president, general secretary and student coordinators, was formally installed and each of the members took their respective positions at the colourful function.

The students were keen to take the oath in front of Justice Santosh Hegde and also made a vow to fight against corruption in all forms. Pavan Balakrishna, a final year BBM student who was elected unanimously as the president of the union in the recently-held student election process, took charge of his office along with vice president Rakesh A and general secretary Vineeth, both of who are from final year BBM.

“In our college, class representatives elect the union members. There were three contestants for the post of the president. But in the end, the other two contestants backed out making my way much easier,” says Pavan Balakrishna, the president.
Santosh Hegde administered the oath to the students and called upon them to join hands in stamping out corruption.

“I did whatever I could to weed out corruption but I could not achieve it fully. But as youngsters, you can do what I could not. I met thousands of students during my tenure as the Lokayukta of Karnataka because they are the last hope and I am sure if they come forward, they can root out corruption,” he said. On their request, he also briefed the students about the need for the Lokpal Bill. Principal Joshua Samuel was also present on the occasion.

The new union is already preparing for the upcoming ‘Baldwin Fashion Week’ which is supposed to be held in August. “Everyday, all the eleven members will meet in the Union Room, an exclusive meeting place provided to us by the college, and discuss about the preparation.

Premiere fashion institutes and popular fashion teams from Dayananda Sagar Institutions, MSRIT, Garden City, Indian Institute of Fashion Management, Jain College, RNSIT and many more are expected to take part in the show. And our college is also very good at sports, b-boying and other cultural activities and the union will help students showcase their talents in all fields,” he assures.

The other members of the union include Adithi K P, the treasurer, Sam Irwin, the sports secretary, Edison, the cultural secretary, Ashik, the human resource secretary and Spoorthi, the fashion coordinator. Each of them will be assisted by an additional secretary.
