Chhattisgarh murder fugitives held

Three youths are suspected to have killed a man and two women for gain

Siaram Purame alias Prem, 20, Rahul Purane, 20, and Goru Pradhan, 20, all residents of Manpur town, were arrested near a building under construction in Nandini Layout where they were working.

The suspects admitted to committing the triple murder for gain and absconding, said the police who produced them before the magistrate and later handed them over to a team of police officials from Chattisgharh.

Background

Prabhunandan, 63, a retired forest guard, his wife Pushpa Bai, 58, and her sister-in-law Manav Bai, 50, lived at a residence situated in an isolated place at Manpur. Prabhunandan and Pushpa had no children. Siaram Purame worked as help at Prabhunandan’s house for a brief period. Aware that Prabhunandan was wealthy, Purame hatched a conspiracy to commit robbery or theft. He prepared the plan after Rahul and Goru Pradhan decided to join hands with him.

The suspects covered their faces with masks and gained entry inside the residence on the night of October 17, 2010. Siaram caught Prabhunandan, and at knifepoint demanded that he hand over cash and other valuables, while two others held Pushpa and Manav. When Prabhunandan tried to retaliate, the mask fell off from Siaram’s face disclosing his identity. Thinking the family might lodge a complaint with police, Purame directed his associates to eliminate the two women, and he stabbed Prabhunandan to death. They collected jewellery and other valuables and fled.

The triple murder came to light the next day. Suspecting the involvement of the trio in the murder, police launched a search for them.

The fugitive trio lived in Mumbai for some time working as construction labourers. They shifted locations and came to Bangalore a week ago and started working as construction labourers.

Manpur police tracked the calls they made to their friends and relatives from coin booths. They received definite information that the trio were working in Bangalore and alerted the City police, leading to the arrests.

School autos fined

In a special drive, the East Division traffic police on Wednesday registered cases against 391 autorickshaw drivers ferrying students to schools and collected a fine of Rs 39,100 for traffic violations.

Police said the autorickshaws were carrying nearly 13 students in each vehicle in violation of norms.

The traffic police have requested parents to ascertain the number of students an auto ferried to school, before hiring one for their children, and considering children’s safety make alternative transport arrangements if the number of students in an auto exceeded the permitted limit.

Seven held for murder

The Banashankari police arrested seven men in a murder case on Thursday. The suspects are accused of hacking Basha, 25, to death near Monotype in BSK II Stage on July 8.

The arrested are Shanmuga (29) from Rajajinagar, Vijay Kumar (28), Uttarahalli, Lokesh (24), Ganapathipur, Sridhar (21), Banashankari, Nizam Pasha (27), Kaverinagar, Mahendra (21), KS Layout and Arun Kumar (20), Shakambarinagar. The suspects told the police they bumped off Basha over past enmity between him and Shanmuga’s brother Palani.

Chain snatcher caught

Alert public caught a man attempting to rob a woman, thrashed him and handed him over to police in Cottonpet on Wednesday night.

Police said Arun (20) from Parappana Agrahara tried to snatch the gold chain of Prema when she was on her way home on Akkipet Main Road. A few people rushed to Prema’s rescue when she cried for help.
