Clean your skin with a light cleansing milk or an effective face wash. Thrice a week, use this exfoliating scrub: Mix together multani mitti ( Fuller’s earth), gram flour and sandalwood powder. Store this in an airtight container. Use a teaspoon of this scrub as paste by mixing in a few drops of  water. This rids the skin of flakes and dirt.

- Use seasonal fruits as facial masks because they are economical and highly moisturising.

- In a blender crush grapes and use it on your skin. This contains minerals and helps the wrinkles around the eyes and mouth. It also moisturises and nourishes the skin.

- Mash a ripe banana or a watermelon. Mix in a teaspoon of milk power and a quarter teaspoon of honey and two drops of orange essential oil. Apply and allow it to remain on the face and neck for 20 minutes. Rinse with cool water.

- Try an oatmeal and tomato juice pack to shrink large pores and slough off dead skin. To a tablespoon of tomato juice, mix equal quantities of  oatmeal to make a thin paste. Add a drop of essential oils of peppermint. Apply it on the face, avoiding the eye and area around the lips. Leave it on for 5 to 10 minutes, then wipe with damp cotton or a sponge and rinse with cool water.

- Add a cup of buttermilk (lassi) to your bath to tighten pores and add a few drops of jasmine.

- Nourish and soothe skin with this bath formula. Mix together two teaspoons of salt, 1½ teaspoons of coconut oil and half a teaspoon of vinegar and apply to the body before a bath.

- To soothe sunburn, use a head-to-toe yogurt mask. Leave it on for 10 minutes then shower with cool water. This brings fast relief. Rub ice cubes wrapped in a tissue on pulse points such as wrists and ankles. You will feel a boost of instant energy.

- To avoid a heat rash, remove your sweaty clothes and jump right into the shower. You can relieve the itchiness of heat rash by applying cooling cornstarch and water. Compress half a cup of cornstarch to a pint of water and add a few drops of sandalwood.
- To avoid prickly heat and to soothe it, twice a day dust the body liberally with equal quantities of boric powder, sandalwood powder and talcum powder.

Dirt on the neck?

Scrub by mixing together a tablespoon of sandalwood powder and a tablespoon of multani mitti (Fuller's earth), dahi (yogurt) to make a paste. Rinse after ten minutes.

Mix a tablespoon of dry oatmeal powder with dahi. Add the juice of one lime. Massage this pack on the neck and leave it on for half an hour. Rinse, pat dry and apply moisturiser. Oatmeal and dahi remove dead cells and the lemon juice restores the acid balance and bleaches the skin. Follow this routine with an almond oil massage.
