Cow protection centres in 50 taluks

A decision to this effect was taken at a state cabinet meeting but was not officially announced in the wake of model code of conduct that was in force due to August 18 bye-elections for five assembly seats.

Official sources said the government has decided to extend Rs ten lakh assistance to each of the goshalas and the scheme would be extended to other taluks in phases.
The meeting also decided to hike the honorarium being paid to 10,110 village assistants by Rs 1,000 per month from Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000.

It was decided to set up an official committee headed by PWD Principal Secretary to guide the government on levying development fee ranging from Rs 500 to RS 1,000 from lorries transporting iron ore, sand and wooden logs.

The funds raised from this fee would be used for development of roads in the regions where vehicles ply, the sources said adding such a measure was recommended by Lokayukta in its first report on illegal mining activity in the state.

The cabinet approved adopting the guidelines issued by the Supreme Court on transfers in Police department, which was being followed by about 15  states across the country,the sources said.
