The decision was made at a preliminary meeting held here on Saturday. However, it was decided at the meeting that programmes at village, hobli and taluk-level would be inaugurated on August 27.

Representatives also demanded that a statue of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar should be installed.

Earlier, the Zilla Utsav was planned to be held on August 27 and 28.

Members at the meeting opined that rains would ruin the programmes and also said time for preparation was very less.

Karnataka Sangha president Prof Jayaprakashgowda and other leaders demanded that a decision should be taken at the earliest concerning the installation of Wadiyar’s statue.

Deputy commissioner Dr P C Jaffer said that a discussion was held with district in-charge minister and the government has accepted to install the statue. MLAs M Srinivas and B Ramakrishna also accepted the proposal to hold the festival in the last week of December.

MLA Ashwathanarayana opined that funds should be sought from Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike as they were using water supplied from Mandya district.

He also mentioned that illustrious persons from Kodagu district, the birthplace of Cauvery River, should also be feted on the occasion.
