Four scooters of the Scooty brand stolen by the Class X student of a prominent English medium public school have been seized. The incident comes as a shock as the girl, who is reasonably well in studies, belongs to a well-to-do family.  Her father is a senior executive of a well-known corporate house.

Revealing the modus operandi of the minor, the city deputy commissioner of police (DCP), Nitinjeet Singh said, Sweta (name changed), who is obsessed with two-wheelers,  would visit different areas of the city and search residents having Scooty brand of two-wheelers.

After identifying her target, she would arrive in the house next day posing herself as a junior executive of the company that produces the two-wheeler. She would tell the owner that the company had sent her for a “check-up”.

After the check-up, she would ask for a “test drive” and take the two-wheeler out never to return again.  Charmed by her personality — she speaks fluent English and Hindi — people never suspected her to be a two-wheeler lifter. Moreover, she always carried a fake company identity card while visiting her targets.

The police managed to crack the case after receiving a couple of complaints and recovering two Scooties from near betel shops.

Modus operandi
After stealing a two-wheeler, the girl never took it to her home. Instead of taking the vehicles home, she would keep it near a betel shop stating to the shop owners that the two-wheeler had suddenly developed a snag and she would come and collect it the next day.

Even after the arrest, the Class X  student refused to confess to stealing the vehicles. Sweta, however, has been granted bail after she was produced in a local juvenile court. Police have been carrying out detailed investigation.
