Apparently upset over a failed love affair, a 24-year-old woman hanged herself at her house in south Delhi’s Munirka on Tuesday. A note has been recovered in which the victim apologised to her parents for taking the extreme step, police said.

Shivani, who hailed from Uttarakhand’s Haridwar district, was working with a call centre in Gurgaon and previously worked as ground staff with a private airline. She had done a course in hospitality from a reputed institute in Haridwar.

Police said Shivani was found hanging from a ceiling fan in the rented house around 10.30 am.

Through the note, she informed her parents that she liked a man, but could not be in a relationship with him.

Suicide note

“I feel sorry for my family members, but I got frustrated with my life, that is why I am going to commit suicide. Please pardon me,” read the suicide note.

A police officer said she sent a couple of text messages to the male friend before taking the step.

The incident came to light when Shivani’s landlord was looking for her on Tuesday morning as she returned from Haridwar late on Monday. He found the main door of the house latched from inside.

“He knocked on the door for a while, but Shivani did not respond. He then peeped inside the house through the window and found her hanging,” a police officer said.

Police was informed after which Shivani was rushed to the AIIMS trauma centre. “She was pronounced brought dead,” the officer added.

Her mobile phone has also been recovered in which police found some messages sent to the male friend. According to the messages, Shivani was upset with him.

Lover under scanner

“We will question the victim’s male friend in this connection. If we find evidence against him, we will register a case of abetment to suicide,” the officer said.

Police informed her family members in Haridwar and they were expected to reach the capital by late Tuesday.
