<p>Speaking to reporters, LCI’s president Dr Wing Kun Tam said as a part of its green revolution, the Club had taken up programmes to plant saplings across the world and had planted over a million saplings to arrest global warming. <br /><br />“Global warming has the potential to trigger a catastrophe causing severe damage to our environment. We have initiated a movement to reduce the damage in 206 countries across the world,” he said.<br /><br />Dr Tam added that the plan was only to plant saplings and not to create a record. “But surprisingly within a day on August 25, we planted 35 lakh saplings across South India, which turned out to be a world record.”<br /><br />V V Krishna Reddy, LCI’s director, pointed out that the present record had bettered the previous record of six lakh saplings a day. The Guinness Book of World Records is expected to confirm the record within three weeks.<br /><br />Trees planted<br />Nanjappa Kalegowda, global leadership team member, said trees were planted in Thippagondanahalli, Chennapatna, Rajarajeshwari Nagar and other places. <br /><br />He added that all the details pertaining to the planting of saplings have been recorded and videographed to furnish as proof.<br /></p>
