Speaking to reporters, LCI’s president Dr Wing Kun Tam said as a part of its green revolution, the Club had taken up programmes to plant saplings across the world and had planted over a million saplings to arrest global warming.

“Global warming has the potential to trigger a catastrophe causing severe damage to our environment. We have initiated a movement to reduce the damage in 206 countries across the world,” he said.

Dr Tam added that the plan was only to plant saplings and not to create a record. “But surprisingly within a day on August 25, we planted 35 lakh saplings across South India, which turned out to be a world record.”

V V Krishna Reddy, LCI’s director, pointed out that the present record had bettered the previous record of six lakh saplings a day.  The Guinness Book of World Records is expected to confirm the record within three weeks.

Nanjappa Kalegowda, global leadership team member, said trees were planted in Thippagondanahalli, Chennapatna, Rajarajeshwari Nagar and other places.

He added that all the details pertaining to the planting of saplings have been recorded and videographed to furnish as proof.
