A theatrical experience

Mediterranean twist

Nestled in the busy streets of Outer Ring Road is the latest Mediterranean and Asian restaurant ‘Flechazo’, which means ‘love at first sight’. And do you actually fall in love when you walk in? Well, the advantage of having a parking space is a plus and to see a well-light restaurant in the evening is an added bonus. The lights and decor of the restaurant are very inviting, and the blue and yellow colour combination also puts a smile on one’s face while walking in.

A buffet restaurant, this place brings in the cuisine of the Mediterranean and Asian regions. The restaurant is divided into different segments which have a mostly ‘do-it-yourself’ kind of service. The ‘food shot’ counter has options like ‘chaats’, dim sum, sushi, tapas and other cold food being showcased on a conveyer belt. One of the other highlights is the ‘Big O’  counter where one can make their own thin crust pizza. You can choose any number of toppings and they pair the sauces to suit your palate. They also prepare freshly baked pita bread which is soft, moist and just the way it should be.

Like any other buffet restaurant, the appetisers are served at the table. The non-vegetarians can enjoy the ‘Mustard grilled fish in mayo’ which almosts melts in your mouth, the ‘ Chilli prawns in black pepper sauce’ that leave a hint of spice on your lips, ‘ Maratha Tangdi or the three pepper chicken’ which is juicy and succulent. An interesting take on the starter is when the server shaves ‘shawarma’ meat onto your plate. One can make their own ‘shawarmas’ with the freshly baked pita bread and the types of hummus served at the table.

For those who like paneer, the ‘Hariyali paneer tikka’ is fresh and moist. The ‘Crispy corn’ and ‘Filfila mushroom’ also bring add a crunchy flavour to the dining experience.

One can also choose from a variety of soups such as ‘ Veg tamatar shorba’ and ‘ Chicken jade’. The spread of salad is a colourful and delicious one. The ‘Corn and radish salad, ‘ Chicken tandoori chaat’ and ‘Tabouleh salad’ are a fresh addition to the meal.

The main course has an array of dishes like ‘Nawabi paneer’, ‘Masoor dal’, ‘Veg dum biryani’, ‘ Gosht navrathan korma’, ‘ Patiyala murgh’ and ‘Spiced fish in mandarin sauce’.

Each has their individual flavours, unique from each other. The ‘Coastal crab curry’ is recommended. However, you might not always get as much flesh as you hoped for.

Moving to the interesting part of the meal, quite literally, is when you move to the ‘Smokin’ cold’ section. The magic of liquid nitrogen flavoured instant ice cream leaves a queue of eager
customers at the waiting line. Within seconds, the fluid version of the flavour dissolves in the liquid nitrogen, making a theatre around the counter to solidify into ice cream. But if you are looking for a regular dessert, they also have fruit custard, chocolate chip pastry and assorted macaroons.

Though ‘love’  is a strong term to give, it is a restaurant that makes one want to come back and try the variety of options they have.

‘Flechazo’  is located at Survey No 9/1, First Floor, VRR Orchid, Above Surya Nissan Showroom, Doddanekundi. For reservations, call 7676501111.
