Last Updated 15 September 2011, 19:12 IST

The former Samajwadi Party general secretary got the interim relief as his condition reportedly deteriorated a few days after he was lodged at the Tihar Jail.

Special Judge Sangita Dhingra Sehgal took into consideration several factors particularly the medical reports of the AIIMS where he was shifted from jail on September 12.

The court directed the AIIMS director to inform it immediately if and when 55-year-old Singh would be discharged from the hospital.

“The accused (Amar Singh), Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and a known figure cannot be shown extra indulgence but he must also not be subjected to undue harshness as humane angle can never be lost of sight by the courts of equity, justice and good conscience,” the court said.

The court also imposed several conditions like Singh would not tamper with evidence and try to influence witnesses in the case.

The director AIIMS was told by the court to furnish a comprehensive day-to-day medical report of the accused on September 19 — the day when the regular bail plea of Singh will be heard.

In its medical report, the AIIMS stated that the health of the accused was “fluctuating”.
