The photographs which were clicked during a picnic in Lake Tahoe, Nevada, in the summer of 1962, show the actress with Frank Sinatra and Greco himself.

Some thirty-six pictures were clicked that day but only six survive as the rest were kept in a vault in the World Trade Centre and were destroyed in the September 11 terror strikes.

Greco now 82, has decided to sell the photographs after keeping them with him for the past 40 years, Daily Mail reported.

"I remember it was a wonderful weekend. Marilyn turned up wearing a green scarf, green shoes, green slacks and a green blouse, and looking just wonderful. She turned up in a limousine and put her arms around me. I was very lucky my manager was there to take the photographs," said the pianist remembering the day when he last saw Monroe alive.

Mafia boss Sam Giancana, her former husband and baseball player Joe DiMaggio, as well as Dean Martin, were all on the trip, the pianist said.

"I've no idea if Marilyn was put under any pressure, I wasn't privy to that. I heard she and Joe DiMaggio talked about getting married again but I don't know," said Greco.

Monroe died at the age of 36 due to an overdose of sleeping pills, but her death remains shrouded in mystery with numerous conspiracy theories.

There has already been a huge interest in the photographs for which the starting bid is just USD 7,500. They are expected to fetch far more at auction due to their subject.
