Since Reddy was the sole candidate, he was elected unopposed for the second time in a row. Incidentally, in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda in Bangalore on Monday, it was decided that Reddy would continue to hold charge of KMF. As a result, nobody else filed nominations.

KMF Managing Director A S Premnath made the formal announcement after chairing the Board meeting. Out of the 13 elected directors of the Board, excepting JD (S) leader H D Revanna, everybody else participated in the meeting.

Also, JD (S) members K V Nagaraj and Maruthi Kashempur expressed their support for Reddy.

Among the nominated directors, Mangala Devi and Ashwathanarayana attended the meeting, while Sadananda Gowda was absent. Reddy said that he would try and spend at least three days of the week in the KMF office. He said a lot had been achieved during his first term and that KMF had earned a profit of Rs 38 crore.

The celebrations that were seen when Reddy was elected the first time around, was clearly missing on Tuesday – reason being the arrest of his brother G Janardhana Reddy, who is presently lodged at the Chanchalaguda jail in Andhra Pradesh.
