Varsity distributes braille textbooks

Bangalore University Vice-Chancellor N Prabhu Dev, who presented the books said that BU will take all steps to set up career counselling, a job placement unit and distance education centre on the campus. All these facilities will be offered free of cost to the students, he said.

He announced that an Electronic Resource Centre with a help desk to assist the visually challenged students will soon be opened. Additionally, a braille book centre with tactile graphics and talking book centre with advanced audio technology will be provided at the centre.

A member from the National Association for the Blind said that Bangalore University had given hope to the blind students.

Gautam Agarwal, President of National Federation of the Blind said, “Along with the textbooks, the University also gives Rs 500 as scholarship. This will help the students to deal with challenges they face.”

Visually impaired students from the MLA College performed ‘Dollu Kunitha’ on the occasion. The braille textbooks were supplied with the help of various organisations working for the blind.
