Petition to stop Zardari from holding PPP post

Last Updated 04 May 2018, 03:26 IST

Rana Ilamuddin Ghazi filed the petition through his counsel A K Dogar, who is also the counsel of Jamaat-ud-Dawah chief Hafiz Saeed, yesterday.

Ghazi noted that a full bench of the High Court had, in an order issued in May, declared the involvement of the President in political activities as unconstitutional.

Ghazi said Zardari had not disassociated himself from political activities at the earliest, as was expected by the court. Zardari had not stopped "misusing" the presidency for purposes of his political party, he contended.

He mentioned in his petition the political activities of the President after the court gave its judgement.

Ghazi asked the court to issue a "writ of prohibition" requiring the President to act in accordance with the law declared by the court, to disassociate himself from the office of PPP chief, and to stop using the presidency, officials and financial resources of the government for his personal and political purposes.
