Another birthday abroad for Manmohan Singh

Singh was en route to Frankfurt to return to New Delhi after attending the 66th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. This was the second time the prime minister was onboard Air India One on his birthday.

Singh was born on September 26, 1932, at Gah which is now in the Punjab province of Pakistan.

Ahead of his birthday, Singh had his family joining him in New York for four days. His wife Gursharan Kaur, eldest daughter Upinder Singh and  his grandson travelled with him from New Delhi to New York. His daughter Amrit Singh, who lives in New York, joined him, after he arrived in the city last Thursday. Amrit’s husband Barton Beebe, a professor at the School of Law at New York University, also joined the family and the rest of his in-laws to be with Singh at New York Palace Hotel.

This is the second time the prime minister flew abroad on his birthday.

Singh had celebrated his 77th birthday in 2009 onboard the special aircraft, while returning from G20 Summit in Pittsburgh and heading to Geneva.
