Corporator arrested for attack on Govt offices

The prime accused Diwakar, corporator of ward No 18, was absconding soon after the attack on Government offices and the police had launched a search.

When he arrived at a relative’s house on Friday, the police rushed to arrest him. Diwakar, who was attempting to run away, slipped, fell and fractured his leg.

The police arrested him and admitted him to the  Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital for treatment, after which he was produced before the court.


Diwakar has been remanded to judicial custody till October 22. At the hospital Diwakar’s supporters had an altercation with the police.

During the bundh some protestors led by Diwakar entered the premises of the Deputy Commissioner’s office and damaged window panes, computers and other equipment in the offices of the urban development cell and Assistant Commissioner.

Another group threw stones at the Forest Department office and Regional Transport office. To disperse the protestors, Deputy Commissioner A A Biswas himself borrowed a lathi from the police and drove them away.

On the same day, the police arrested 11 persons. Corporator Diwakar, private assistant to legislator Somashekar Reddy, Sunil Reddy and Madhusudan escaped. The anticipatory bail filed by the accused was rejected by the District Court and on September 30 the High Court Circuit Bench also rejected their application. Sunil Reddy and Madhusudhan are still at large.
