Saumya bags double crown

Title favourite Saumya brushed aside the lukewarm challenge put up by unseeded Urvashi Joshi, her opponent in both finals, to capture the women's singles crown after pocketing the girls under 17 title.

Saumya outclassed Urvashi 11-8 11-6 11-7 in the under 17 summit contest and then was even more convincing as she chalked out a 11-5 11-3 11-4 victory in a one-sided women's final that lasted just 20 minutes.

Top seed Mahesh Mangaonkar of Maharashtra proved too good for his Delhi rival Uttkarsh Kumar, seeded third, in the boys under 19 final and won the contest 11-5 11-7 11-4.

Top seeds Yohan Pandole and Abhimanyu Shah were made to struggle their way to the boys under 15 and 17 titles respectively.

Pandole got the better of a fighting Kunj Rawani 12-14 8-11 11-7 12-10 11-8 in an absorbing contest while Shah subdued Arjun Kochhar (CCI) 11-8 8-11 11-5 11-6.

In a minor reversal of seedings, no. 2 Aishwarya Nambiar rallied from a game down to down top seed Aishwarya Bhattacharya 6-11 11-8 13-11 11-2 for the under 15 girls crown.

No. 1 seed Aryaman Adik bt no. 2 Dev Vazirani 11-2 9-11 11-9 11-9 for the under 13 boys' top honours while the corresponding girls' title was lifted by no. 2 seed Daksha Pathak who beat Koel Shankar 11-6 11-6 11-3 in the final.
