JOIN USA statement by IAC, released on Monday, said the yatra was nothing but a “rhetoric of a political campaign”. The statement came in the wake of Advani not meeting IAC members.
Advani’s supporters had cancelled a meeting on Sunday and IAC had stated that the meeting was postponed to Monday. However, even as Monday passed by, IAC members were left in the dark over any possibility of a meeting with Advani.
The letter reads: “IAC, Karnataka was deeply surprised to hear that Advani was unwilling to meet us. He missed a crucial opportunity to meet volunteers of the second largest anti- corruption movement in the country.”
It stated that the State BJP government had seen too many scams. Lack of action with regard to the PDS report was also a failure of the BJP and not discussing these matters with IAC meant the party had lost a golden opportunity to cleanse its name and start afresh, said the statement.
“What is left is only the rhetoric of a political campaign. If this is what the Jan Chetana Yatra is all about, then it may well be called off.”
