While shops and commercial establishments remained closed, traffic was as usual on roads. Educational institutions and government offices though were open, did not function normally. As many as 22 persons including the former legislatgor A Nagaraju, leaders R Prabhakar, S Prakash, Babu and others were taken into custody in the morning itself.
While Nagaraju was detained in the local police station the rest were kept at Gul pet police station in Kolar.
The protesters alleged that there have been no development works in the taluk ever since S N Krishnaiah Setty became the legislator and assumed office as chairman of Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board.
“The MLA is facing several criminal cases and has neglected the development of the taluk. It is unfortunate that the Congress has not raised voice against the legislator. The agents of Union Minister of State, K H Muniyappa are supporting Krishnaiah Setty indirectly,” alleged former legislator A Nagaraju. He declared that a struggle will be launched to get rid of the “politics of deception.”
In-charge tahsildar Mangala received the memorandum from the protesters.
Zilla Panchayat members H Hanumanthappa, Kanaka Srinivas, former ZP vice-presidents P Narayanaswamy, Gopala Reddy, Komul director A V Prasanna and others took part in the protest. No untoward incidents have been reported.
