Lalit Modi withdraws plea on revocation of passport

Last Updated 04 November 2011, 10:35 IST

Modi's counsel told Justice Vipin Sanghi that his client wanted to withdraw the petition as the appellate authority in the ministry of external affairs had already passed its order Thursday.

The judge allowed Modi to withdraw the petition in which he had sought an expeditious decision by the authority hearing his appeal. The passport had been revoked for alleged foreign exchange violations.

Modi, presently in London, had moved the high court Nov 2.

His counsel had said earlier that Modi's plea had been pending before the authority since August this year and no order had been passed yet so the court must hear it expeditiously.

Modi had appealed before the chief passport officer challenging revocation of his passport by Mumbai's Regional Passport office.

The regional passport office in Mumbai had revoked Modi's passport on March 3 this year following the Enforcement Directorate's probe into financial irregularities.
