We need to be fearless: Gibson

Last Updated 04 November 2011, 17:47 IST

Morale in the West Indian camp is high after their series triumph in Bangladesh, their first overseas win since 2003.  “Obviously, winning is a big positive,” Gibson noted. “Whether it is against Bangladesh or a top nation, winning first is very important. It is good to see so many of our young players coming into form and put in outstanding performances. But this is a different challenge and one that we are really looking forward to.

“Over the last six to 12 months, our fast bowlers have done well,” Gibson went on. “Rampaul, Edwards, Roach and Sammy have won us matches. We know that India obviously will be heavy on spin but we believe in the quality of our fast bowlers. What believe we have the quality to back ourselves. We know the ball doesn’t swing very long in India. You need to have added skills and we pay a lot of attention to that. We are skilled enough to reverse it and get wickets as well.”

The emergence of leggie Devendra Bishoo has lent both variety and versatility to the Caribbean attack. “Bishoo is a talented bowler, he has 32 wickets in just seven games,” the former fast bowler observed. “He is still very new to international cricket but he is learning well.”
