Last Updated 04 November 2011, 15:40 IST

In September this year, the government introduced the regulation to stop pesky calls and SMSes.

The regulation mandates the service provider to issue a disconnection notice to the subscriber, who is not registered with the regulator as a telemarketer, but is found sending unsolicited commercial communication (UCC).

It further states that the connection would be disconnected on second violation.

"Accordingly, 1,122 subscribers have been issued notices and 111 subscribers have been disconnected. In case of telemarketers, in 17 cases telemarketers have been penalised," Trai said in a statement.

In case of violation of regulation by registered telemarketers, Trai has recommended penalty ranging between Rs 25,000 to 2.5 lakh for a violation.
