Ryot attempts suicide, Horticulture dept DD in soup

With this issue Horticulture department has got into trouble as various quarters of the society are demanding action against the Deputy Director for his negligence.

Congress leader M L Murthy taking up the issue said that District Horticulture Department
Deputy Director had made false statement that the money under Suvarna Bhoomi scheme was credited to the account of the said beneficiary on July 25 itself.

Jayaraj, a farmer from Ganjalagodu failed to get the money even after running from pillar to post over the last three months.

On the other hand when the harassment of the bank too started taking toll on him, he decided to end his life by consuming poison.

The victim was rushed to district hospital and then to Hassan District hospital and due to timely intervention he could be saved.

A case was registered in this regard on September 23 and on September 24, a Zilla Panchayat member raked up Jayaraj issue during the general body meeting. The Deputy Director mislead the house by saying that there are no documents related to Jayaraj in the department. He further said that there is no system of providing compensation for potato crop loss.

“There is a personal complaint filed by Jayaraj with the department. He has made no mention about crop loss in the same. We cannot give any compensation for potato crop loss,” said the Deputy Director during the meet. This was entered in the proceedings of the meeting.

With the farmer attempting to suicide and with documents showing that Horticulture department did credit Rs 4,000 to the bank account of Jayaraj on September 28, general public are demanding action against the department for giving out false information and
