State will not hand over UKP probe to CBI: Gowda

Last Updated 08 November 2011, 19:53 IST

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, he said as the case was registered under Section 7 of the Criminal Procedure Code, there is no provision to handover the investigation to the CBI or any other agencies. After detailed deliberation with legal experts, the State government has decided to handover the investigation to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), he said.

At the behest of the State government, the CID recently registered a case in connection with certain alleged irregularities and financial misappropriation in the UKP between 1995-98 when Deve Gowda was the chief minister

Alleging that the BJP-led government was trying to malign his family, former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy, who is also the son of Deve Gowda, demanded the State government to handover the case to the CBI.

New Lokayukta

On the delay in appointing the new Lokayukta, the chief minister said: “We have recommended the name to the Governor H R Bhardwaj. It is up to the Governor to give his accord. I hope he will give his stamp on it at the earliest.”

On the demand for dissolving the Belgaum City Corporation, the chief minister said he will try to solve the problem amicably than dismissing the elected body.

“I have already consulted with both the warring parties and will hold another discussion with them to explore a proper solution,” Gowda added.
