Make best use of facilities available, students told

Inaugurating the informative exhibition on ‘Research documents’ organised by the Library, Research and Development Cell of St Agnes College as a part of Librarians’ Day celebration, Dr Rehman said that library plays a vital role in the lives of the students and in this era of Information and Technology digital means have taken over the books. He said that there is a need for students to pay attention towards acquiring knowledge by both means, viz., library as well as digital means. He hence urged the college management to see to it that internet facilities are extended to students effectively in the college as well as in the hostels. He opined that mentality of the people of Dakshina Kannada towards research has changed drastically over the years. Recalling his days of working hard for dissertation by sending correspondence to various countries asking for research documents, today information is available at a click of the mouse. He urged the student community to make best use of these facilities available to them.

Chief guest of the programme, Pilikula Science Centre Director Prof K V Rao said that librarians are no more mere care takers of the books but instead they are resource persons, who can help and guide the students. He asked the students to develop a research bent of mind and said that students should not just read something for the sake of reading but must try to acquire knowledge from it.

Cell Co-ordinator Dr Vishala B K said that Librarians’ Day is celebrated on the birthday of great mathematician, librarian D S R Ranganathan. College Principal Sr Prem D’Souza, Vice-Principal Sr Supriya and others were present.

Thesis, dissertation, project reports, honours programme report, publications, Associations and Cells reports of St Agnes College faculty and students were exhibited. The exhibition will be held till August 19.
