Last Updated 10 November 2011, 18:52 IST

Addressing the mediapersons here on Thursday, Gowda said the Government was doing its best to resolve the sericulture issue and that the farmers would not be unnecessarily troubled. Asked why the farmers were arrested despite the peaceful protests, Gowda said that there were ‘goonda’ elements among the protesters who showed signs of creating law and order problem.

However, when asked about the Government not taking the farmers into confidence while  fixing the relief amount for cocoons, Gowda said that as the issue was grave requiring immediate attention, the chief minister himself had taken the decision.

The farmers unhappy with the decision, have decided to stage protests in front of all the 66 cocoon markets in the State on November 14. They said the relief fund was just an eyewash.
