City pregnant with 11.11.11 hopes

Fancy date

Women delivering their babies naturally on Friday would have no complaints. But there are at least 20 couples, who don’t want to take any chances and have opted for a planned caesarean (C-Section), well timed to catch their date with the calendar.
Many parents aren’t satisfied with the date alone.

They want their child to be born precisely at 11:11 am, said Dr Sudarshan Ballal, medical director, Manipal Hospital.
“Normally we do not encourage such requests as the mother and child’s health is more important than date of births. But if the baby is completely mature and is due for delivery before or after November 11, such requests are considered,” he said.

However, Dr Beena Jeysingh, senior consultant, gynaecology at Apollo Hospital said that she does not encourage any such ‘advance booking’ for delivery. “We normally recommend parents-to-be to give utmost prominence to health, comfort and safety of the mother and baby and not fall prey to fancy dates of birth. Deliveries normally happen depending on the obstetric indication and will not bend rules for any parent’s request,” she added.

In another hospital, a woman is due to deliver twins on her 11th anniversary making it extraordinarily special for the family.

It is not just about babies. As it is also the marriage season, almost all the marriage halls are booked in the City. Many who wish to have registered marriages are also done with their enquires and appointments.

“We did receive many people on Thursday at our sub-registrar office enquiring about documentations for marriages, but actual number of registered marriages can be given only on Thursday,” said an official from Jayanagar sub-registrar office. Many even enquired about registering their houses on this date at the sub-registrar’s office as they feel that the registration document would have a date that they will remember for life. Some others want their vehicles delivered on Friday.

There have been at least 25 cars of Chevrolet scheduled for delivery at the Sundaram Motors on Kasturba Road. Salesmen at the showroom said on a normal day only 10-12 cars get delivered, but there have been more requests from customers to get their cars delivered on 11.11.11, he said.
