Qualifying with the lowest score among the six finalists, Harpreet shot a series of 4, 5, 2, 4, 3, 3, 3 and 4 to clinch the title with his tally one point better than that of Vijay, who secured the silver with final series scores of 2, 5, 3, 5, 1, 3, 5 and 3.

Vijay edged out his Army rival Pemba Tamang after the fifth series when both tallied 16 points each. But the former went ahead with a score of 9-7 in the tie-shoot. Another Army shooter, Gurpreet Singh clinched the bronze with a tally of 23 points. After the six finalists initially shot four series of five shots each, the shooter with the lowest tally — CK Chaudhary of Army with 9 points — who incidentally topped the qualifying round with 580, was knocked out.

From the fifth series onwards one shooter with the lowest tally gets progressively eliminated after each round till the last two shooters remained for the eighth series to fight for the top two positions.
