Student escapes kidnap bid

Abhishek, a ninth standard student of JSS School, hailing from Haradanahalli in the taluk was on his way to school riding a bicycle when unidentified persons approached him in a van and tried to lure him by giving him chocolates. But, when Abhishek resisted and tried to escape, the miscreants have attacked him with a knife.

Having escaped the clutches of the kidnappers, Abhishek reached tthe Somawarpet bus stand and informed the locals of the incident. With blood oozing out of the cut on his left hand, Abhishek was later shifted to the district government hospital for treatment.

Later, speaking to reporters, Abhishek said, “I was going to my school from Haradanahalli in the morning. An omni van with four people was following me. They gave me a chocolate, but I didn’t accept it. Later, they tried to pull me into the van, but I bit the hand of one person. He tried to put a knife in me and I blocked it with my left hand causing the injury.”

As soon as the news broke out, people gathered in large numbers and staged a protest on the national highway near Somawarpet. Traffic was blocked for two hours due to the protests.

The protesters alleged that reports of kidnapping attempts are doing the rounds for the past two weeks, but the police haven’t been able to nab the miscreants. They demanded immediate enquiry into the incident.

Assistant commissioner A B Basavaraju, additional superintendent of police K H Chandrashekar, Dy SP Muthuswamy Naidu visited the spot and pacified the agitators by assuring that additional security would be put in place during the school time.
