New ZP chief doles out promises

Addressing media persons after being selected as the ZP president recently, he shared his views on the development of the district.

Explaining that during his tenure as president of standing committee on education, he had implemented education through audio visual method in 70 schools of the district three months ago. The main objective of this method is to attract students to the government schools which is on the verge of closure across the district, he said.

Drinking water problems would be solved at five taluks which have been declared as drought-hit and an action plan is being prepared and is in the completing stage. His aim is to complete whatever is possible in the next ten months of his tenure, he added.

Though it was announced that Sathyanarayana would be given the opportunity while Chandregowda was made the president last time, there were a lot of internal bickerings among the party men to secure the coveted post. Lakshman Gowda of Dudda, Devegowda (Papanni) of Moodalahippe and Vyramudi Chandru of Yasalur contended for the post. There were lobbying for the post, according to party sources. There were also incidents of party workers waylaying the car of MLA H D Revanna to select Vyramudi Chandru for the post in Sakleshpur.

Hundreds of party workers had gathered in front of travellers bungalow on the day of election on Wednesday from morning. MLA H S Prakash, Patel Shivram, H K Kumaraswamy, District Unit president H K Javaregowda and others held a meeting and supported Sathyanarayana and Kumaraswamy supported Vyramudi and later the decision was left to Revanna, who consulted party supremo H D Deve Gowda.

Later, as per the direction of the party high command, Sathyanarayana filed nominations and was unanimously selected at 3 pm.
JD(S) has been following the system of changing the ZP chief once in 10 months to keep other aspirants happy.
