Cong wants CBI to inquire into fake bills scam

Boiling point: BBMP Congress workers stage a protest in front of the BBMP office on Wednesday demanding CBI investigation into the multi-crore fake bills scam. KPN

Party members submitted a memorandum to Mayor Sharadamma demanding that the CBI probe into the work scam across three divisions of Gandhinagar, Malleswaram and Rajarajeshwari Nagar. However, as soon as they submitted the memorandum, the party scaled up its demand and wanted the CBI to probe work in all the divisions under the 28 Assembly constituencies in the City.

Congress party leaders, including MLAs Ramalinga Reddy and N A Harris, MLC Rani Satish, former mayors P R Ramesh, H L N Simha and J Huchappa sat outside the Palike head office and raised anti-BJP slogans, venting their anger against the Rs 300-crore scam in the Palike.

The protest by the Opposition party comes in the wake of wavering confidence in the Palike over the case being investigated by the Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force (BMTF).

Following the submission of the memorandum to the mayor, former opposition leader M Nagaraj appealed to the mayor and the commissioner to ensure that R P Sharma, the newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP) of the BMTF, is transferred for disrespecting the chair of the mayor and the BBMP by not calling on her after taking charge of the post.
