Cocoa causes chaos in ZP meet

The opposition members said that though the Horticulture department has distributed cocoa saplings to farmers to encourage cocoa cultivation in the region, the subsidy for the same has not been credited to the accounts of eligible farmers. In this background, they demanded inquiry and action against the guilty.

With this, the Zilla Panchayat Chief Prafulla Manjunath ordered inquiry into the same. Accordingly Agriculture Standing Committee President will head the team of inquiry. The ZP Chief has said that action will be taken against the guilty without fail.

Poor quality paddy

Member Jyoti Hemashekar said that the Bangla variety of paddy has been an utter failure in Mudigere taluk. While the farmers are in dire straits the Agriculture Department officials have not come to the area to help the farmers, she alleged and demanded compensation for the farmers.

Responding to this, the CEO said that complete details will be collected in this regard within three days and action will be taken against the guilty if poor quality seeds have been distributed.When the topic on excess rain and drought was raised, the ZP Chief said that a proposal has been sent to the Government in this regard already. “We are still waiting for reply,” said the ZP Chief.

Drinking water

When Member Kumar requested the Zilla Panchayat to take steps to provide drinking water, the officials said that the Deputy Commissioner has approved Rs 76 lakh for drinking water and Rs 1.50 crore for taking up drought relief work.

Milk Union

With regard to setting up of a separate Milk Union in the district the CEO said that the survey conducted by Sri Kshethra Dharmasthala Rural Development Programme has shown positive results. “The survey report will be forwarded to the Government,” he said.
