BU to start School of Communication

Announcing this at the International Conference on Glocal Communication- 2011, organised by Public Relations Council of India, Vice Chancellor of Bangalore University N Prabhu Dev said the school would have several big names in the media as part of it. “We want the school to be the best in the country. We have plans to involve people like M J Akbar, Kuldip Nayar and Prabhu Chawla,” he said.

Stating that he expects a grant of Rs 50 crore for the school, Prabhu Dev said the university has plans to lay foundation stone this year as he wants to ensure that it becomes a reality before he completes his term as vice chancellor.

The School of Communication is one of the expansion plans contemplated by the university, which is ranked 9th best in the country, he said.

B K Ravi, Professor, Department of Mass Communication said the media across the world is growing at a rate of 10.1 per cent a year and has a business of about 1.4 trillion US dollars. With 113 million viewers at present, the electronic media is the most popular in the country, he said.
