BJP leaders to decide Somanna, Sudhakar's fate

Last Updated 21 August 2009, 17:45 IST

While Minister V Somanna had to bite the dust in the byelection to Govindrajnagar, Minister D Sudhakar has been charge-sheeted by the CBI in an alleged bank fraud case.

Soon after the results, the CM said that senior party leaders will meet on Saturday and take a decision on whether Housing Minister Somanna should step down or continue. He ducked all questions posed by the media regarding Somanna’s defeat. When asked about Minister Sudhakar, the CM said the party leaders will decide on allowing Sudhakar to continue in the Cabinet or not.

Victims of ‘conspiracy’
The CM who seemed miffed with BJP’s defeat in Govindrajnagar and Channapatna, said the party’s candidates were the victims of ‘conspiracy’ by the Congress and the JD(S).

He, however, said the results as a whole have been ‘satisfactory.’ “BJP’s victory in Chittapur and Kollegal has shown that people have reposed confidence in the BJP government,” he said.

None of the five seats that went to bypolls, actually belonged to the BJP. Still it has managed to win two reserved seats, earlier held by the Congress. “If we had put some more effort, we could have easily won two more seats,” he added.
