India may have taken once esoteric yoga and meditation beyond boundaries, but still it has world’s 17.4 per cent of diabetics. It has made India abode of diabetes, said medical education and district in-charge minister S A Ramdas.

He was speaking after releasing a book on Osho at a hotel here on Sunday. The minister said meditation, yoga and health were not new for India. The country has grown up practicing veda and culture for centuries together. However, it’s still difficult for us to keep our mind under control even for a split second. The need of the hour is to bring back healthy practices to keep our mental health in order.

He blamed rapid urbanisation leading to environmental pollution eventually causing unhealthy issues.

About 196 countries have been debating and finding it hard to find out solutions. Suicide that was once the headache of US has spread its tentacles to India too. It’s alarming to note that youngsters are claiming their own lives unable to handle issues.

Advocate Venugopal from Osho-Allama Insight Foundation said health is a positive stance and it’s wrong to construe that those without ills are healthy.

Good heart, awakening and also happiness are symptoms of good health. Meditation is the key for happiness and the book may help those looking for happiness.

MLC Siddaraju, journalist K B Gapanathi and others were present.
