On August 11, 1994, the high-security Beur jail was inaugurated in his presence as the then state minister for jails in the Lalu government. Fifteen years later, the former lawmaker is cooling his heels in the same jail after a local court on Friday evening remanded him to 14 days’ judicial custody.

Krishna is an accused in the kidnapping and subsequent murder of his close aide Satyendra Singh. Though he evaded arrest for the last three months, Krishna was eventually held at Faridabad and produced in a Patna court on Friday where he was booked under Section 364A (kidnapping for murder), 302 (murder), 201 (destruction of evidence) and 120B/34 (conspiracy hatched by more than one person) of the Indian Penal Code. Krishna joined the Nitish bandwagon in April 2009.

But, even his association with the JD (U) could not save him from being apprehended in the murder case. The Bihar police, in association with Delhi and Haryana police, nabbed the former MP, who will now have to spend “sleepless nights” in the Beur jail. The ex-parliamentarian was denied any special privileges in the jail.
