He was speaking at the valedictory programme of the workshop Belli Mandala Film Society, organised by the Karnataka Films Academy at Kaivara, Chintamani taluk on Saturday.
“The Films Academy was planned five years ago, but there were several hurdles that hindered it. I am happy at least now it is established. The Academy should concentrate on organising academic programmes” he said.
M R Jayaram, president of Yogi Nareyana Trust was present on the occasion.
The Karnataka Films Academy president director T S Nagabharana delivered the vote of thanks. On the last day of the workshop H N Narahari Rao delivered a lecture on the history of film societies. N Vidyashankar spoke about film culture and film education.
The workshop was attended by select 60 film students.
Speaking at a press meet later T S Nagabharana said “ we are organising film societies across the State under the title Belli Mandala concept. The film societies will aim at screening quality films in various languages, including Kannada, conduct discussions, generate quality taste. The workshop was organised by selecting two film buffs each from 30 districts.”
Belli Sakshi
From September 24 film screenings are being organised under the programme Belli Sakshi in schools and colleges to create awareness about quality films. The training workshop was also organised as a part of this.
Also the workshop was a preamble to organise film clubs at schools and colleges, with an aim to represent Kannada film industry at university level. The Academy will be organising more such programmes, Nagabharana said. Academy registrar Jagannath Prakash, film critics Subrahmanya, M Vyasa were present.
