Kundapur-Talapady fourlaning project going on smoothly

Work on 17.3 km has been completed till Nov 31 on the stretch

These works are part of the 90.08 km Talapady-Nanthoor, Surathkal-Kundapur fourlaning project, included under the National Highway Development Project ( NHDP) Phase III on Build Operate Transfer (BOT) Toll basis. Though the project has two parts— 15 km length from Talapady to Nanthoor and 75 km length from Surathkal to Kundapur, this has been integrated as one project under BOT. Andhra based Navayuga-Krishnapatnam Port Company Limited Consortium has already commenced the work. The total project cost is Rs 804 crore. Of which, NHAI has the share of Rs 221 crore.

The flyover will come up at Pumpwell and Thokkottu on Talapady-Nanthoor stretch. The work on the flyover will commence shortly, said sources in NHAI.

The works on the major bridges have already commenced. The bridges are coming up at Mabukala, Bhadragiri, Kalyanpur, Udyavar, Pangala, Mulky, Pavanje, Nethravathy and Talapady. The longest bridge which will come up on the stretch will be 804 mts across Nethravathy river. The bridge at Talapady will be 70 mts in length.

Apart from this, two bypasses will come up at Padubidri and Mulky. As many as 34 box culverts, 92 slab culverts and 106 pipe culverts will also be laid beside the stretch. The minor bridges will come up at Uppur, Nittur, Moodubettu, Hejamady and Bellur. 

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has received approval from the railways for construction of a road over bridge (ROB) at Yekkur near the College of Fisheries. The work will commence soon, sources said and added The Yekkur ROB is a minor bridge and is 31 mts in length.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, National Highway Authority of India Project Director Prashanth N Gawasane said the as on November 31, fourlaning of 17.3 km has been completed on the stretch from Kundapur to Surathkal and Nanthoor to Talapady. The target was to complete at least 50 km work by May, 2012.

Felling of trees

As many as 18,222 trees will be cut on the stretch from Kundapur to Surathkal and Nanthoor to Talapady. About 16,416 trees have already been chopped to facilitate the fourlaning of the road.

The NHAI has paid a sum of Rs two crore to the Forest department for compensatory afforestation programme for felling of trees on National Highway.

About 29 kilometre length pipeline has to be shifted in the stretch. Of which, 3.3 km pipeline has been shifted so far.  A sum of Rs 13 crore has been earmarked for the shifting of electrical lines, said sources.

136 hectare acquired

The authorities had acquired 136 hectare land, for fourlaning of the road from Kundapur-Surathkal and Nanthoor to Talapady stretch. A sum of Rs 115 crore has been deposited in the bank account to be disbursed among those who had given away their land. Those who have given their land can go and collect the compensation amount from Assistant Commissioner, Mangalore and Kundapur by showing the records.
