BSFI working office shifted to Bangalore

Last Updated 12 May 2009, 16:31 IST

A resolution to this effect was passed at the recently held meeting of the BSFI in Pune, according to a press release from the Karnataka State Billiards Association. The meeting was held along the sidelines of the the Asian Billiards Championships. The BSFI headquarters will continue to be based in Kolkata at least for the next one year.

Past office-bearers and senior members of the KSBA have been pressing for a while now to have the Working office shifted to Bangalore in light of the fact that KSBA is for all practical purposes the hub of BSFI activity. In any case, most of the BSFI office-bearers are from the south and with Bangalore most accessible, it should make for a smoother functioining of the national body. KSBA past presidents Subahu Desai and S Balasubramaniam -- also a current vice-president of the BSFI -- as well as federation treasurer MSR Aradhya can look back on a job well done in getting the Working office shifted, though in a lot of ways, the actual work begins only now.

The KSBA and the BSFI together have also embarked on a Centre of Excellence for billiards which will also be housed in Bangalore. The idea behind the establishment of this Centre is to promote billiards among Asian countries. The proposal was put up and approved during the ACBS meeting in China recently. While Subash Aggarwal, Manoj Kothari and Geet Sethi have been appointed coaches, the dates for the first camp are still awaited.

KSBA secretary R Vijaya Prasad has been appointed co-ordinator for the BSFI office and for the Centre of Excellence.
