Hazare charged that from the manner the citizens’ charter came to be introduced in Lok Sabha, “it has become clear that the intentions of the Government in bringing in an effective Lok Pal bill was ‘suspect’ and it is to ‘mislead’ the people.”

“The Government’s intensions are suspect...I condemn the Government’s attitude... It is trying to mislead the people... That’s why I have decided to undertake a fast on December 27, 28 and 29. The fast will be followed by a three-day jail bharo from December 30. After that, I will go to five Assembly poll-bound states and campaign against the government,” Hazare who returned to Ralegan Siddi said.

He believed that the government’s separate citizens’ charter bill was an “insult” to Parliament. “Many a time, we are told that we do not respect Parliament and we insult Parliament. Now, tell me who is insulting the Parliament. By reviving the issue of citizens’ charter, it is Government that is displaying its lack confidence in Parliament,” Hazare pointed out.

“The Government feels that Anna Hazare’s agitation would not have any bearing on it. But, then let them realize that it is not Anna Hazare’s agitation...it is the agitation of the people…it is the voice of the people…one day people will teach this Government a lesson,” Hazare said.

Reiterating that the Government was betraying the people of the country, Hazare said that he would comment on other impending bills in the coming days. “It is the voice of the people that corruption in the country should be rooted out…The Government is not at all comprehending the problems of people. The government has become deaf. It cannot hear the voice of the people. Okay the let the Government go its way, I will go my way.”
