Police have arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly attempting to rape a ten-year-old girl at her house in Sherpur in east Delhi on Monday evening.
The accused, Babu Sikander, works in a private factory and is a neighbour of the victim --a class II student of a government school in the locality.
“The girl said that she was alone at home when Babu came inside around 3:30 pm on Monday. He closed her mouth and started undressing her. He then pushed her on the bed and tried to rape her. The girl was saved when her aunt barged into the house,” a senior police officer said.
Sikander was caught and manhandled by the victim’s neighbours after the aunt raised an alarm. A complaint was registered against him by the girl’s grandmother at the Khajuri Khas Police Station.
