Need to strengthen party from grass root level: Hegde

Last Updated 12 May 2009, 17:26 IST

Speaking on the occasion, Party’s candidate for the Lok Sabha polls Jayprakash Hegde said the time is up for the party members to work from the grass root stage strengthening the party at the block level. Every individual should be assigned with separate responsibilities enabling the worker to contribute maximum for the growth of the party. The polls for the local governments ought to be taken seriously and preparations should begin much ahead of the schedule. Self retrospection is indeed necessary for every defeat endured by the party in the previous GP and ZP elections.

Elections for the Cooperative banks are another opportunity for the party to work in the direction of achieving success. Cooperative banks play a major role in rendering service to the rural people, he said.

People who work against the party staying within the party should be punished for doing so. The original BJP workers are sidelined by the new entrants in the party. Many old BJP workers are willing to join Congress and Congress has no trouble in greeting those who come accepting the ideologies, he added.

Former MP Manorama Madhvaraj expressed confidence over clinching victory in the parliamentary constituencies of the coastal belt.

Congress District President M A Gafoor, District Sevadal President Ashok Kodavoor, Youth Congress Secretary Amrith Shenoy, KPCC member Keshav Udyavar, Pramodh Madhvaraj and others were present.
