Film villain, boxer held for carjacking

 The villain of an upcoming movie “Ghost” and a professional boxer have been arrested for carjacking in south Delhi, the police said on Sunday.

Actor Manish Upadhyay, 23, and Mohit Tokas, 28, a medal winner in the National Boxing Championships and a Delhi University student, were caught red-handed as they were fleeing in a stolen Hyundai Santro car and Rs 120.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Chhaya Sharma said the arrests were made after they received a call at around 12: 45 am on Saturday regarding a carjacking near the Munirka flyover.

“Immediately, a message with description of the vehicle was flashed across Delhi and all the picket, patrolling and Emergency Response Vehicles staff were alerted,” Sharma told Deccan Herald.

The driver of the car, Jogesh Pal, a resident of Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, told the police that the car was pressed in to pick and drop the staff of Bank of America call centre at Gurgaon in Haryana. Pal along with a guard Jaiveer had dropped the last passenger at Munirka, when Manish and Mohit overtook their car,got into the vehicle, drove off and robbed them on the way.

During an intensive search for more than half an hour, the police managed to intercept the robbed vehicle.

“An Emergency Response Vehicle staff intercepted the robbed car near a CNG pump at RK Puram around 1.30 am on Saturday and apprehended the accused,” Sharma said. The police have also recovered the robbed vehicle and cash.

Mohit is a resident of Munirka village, while Manish lives in Najafgarh. “We are also checking whether they have any previous involvement in crime,” said Sharma.
