Motherhood is an experience and it is this experience that the ‘Motherhood’, a boutique birthing centre in Bangalore hopes to capture and offer through its state-of-the-art facilities.

.
‘Motherhood’ that started a year ago celebrated its first anniversary with close friends, relatives and well-wishers in the City recently. The evening had writer and author Anita Nair, well-known gynaecologist Dr Kamini Rao, actor Mammootty and Mohammed Rehan Sayeed, executive director of ‘Motherhood’, on one stage.

Speaking on the occasion, Anita Nair drew a parallel between motherhood and writing a book. She said, “Writing a book is a lot like having a baby. It’s like rasing a child and takes one through different stages. Motherhood is the greatest moment in a woman’s life.”

Actor Mammootty who flew in to support his daughter Surumy and son-in-law Mohammed Rehan Sayeed and celebrate the first anniversary of ‘Motherhood’with them started his talk on a light note by saying that he has never been pregnant before and doesn’t know what it’s like to be one but he too drew a relation between the labour of bearing a child and the labour of being an actor and doing full justice to the character right from its inception.

‘Motherhood’ has brought in 351 babies which means one a day. Family planning is essential but I am not getting into that subject now (he laughs). Controlling the birth rate is good but why not enjoy motherhood while you can,” he observed.

Mohammed Rehan Sayeed, executive director of Motherhood, was the last to speak on the occasion and he took the audience through a quick recap of what their struggles were like through the last one year.

“I never wanted ‘Motherhood’ to be named a hospital, instead I wanted it to be a place where an expectant mothers would walk in and walk out just as happy. We wanted to offer an experience not a hospital environment. We hope to open an IVF centre pretty soon and open a few more ‘Motherhood’ boutiques in the next 18 to 24 months in the City and in Cochin and Chennai,” informed Mohammed Rehan Sayeed.
