“Currently the country is producing two tonnes of food grains per hectare and the estimated production overall is only 210 to 220 billion metric tonnes,” observed Rao.
Inaugurating the 6th Indian Agricultural Universities Association national symposium here, Rao reminded the deans of the various agricultural universities of India of their crucial role in improving the technology to increase productivity. He criticised the Centre for notsetting up 10,000 vocational training schools in rural India, as promised.
