Depressed over friend's death, man ends life

Depressed over his dead friend, a 54-year-old director of a company committed suicide by shooting himself with his licensed revolver at his office in south-east Delhi, police said on Tuesday.

Vijay Singh, who was working with JUD Trading Company, shot himself in the head at his office in C Block, Okhla Phase-2, said a senior police officer.

Before committing suicide, Singh had locked his chamber. Hearing the gunshot, the office staff rushed towards his cabin and found it locked. They broke the door and found Singh lying in a pool of blood.

Then the staff called the police.

“We received a call at 1.30 pm on Monday, and rushed him to AIIMS, where doctors declared him brought dead,” said the officer.

After post-mortem, the body was handed over to his family members.

Police have taken the licensed revolver into custody and have also recovered a suicide note from his office.

“Singh, who lives with his family at a bungalow in Greater Kailash Part-2, was missing his close friend Rajan, who died three years ago,” said the officer.

Police said that Singh, in his suicide note, wrote that he was missing Rajan and he does not want to live anymore.

“A few days ago, it was Rajan’s birthday and he was missing him a lot,” said the officer, quoting the suicide note.

Police also said that Singh had placed his friend’s picture at his cabin and would place flowers every day on it.

Police said Singh did not have any financial or family problems. Singh’s son, Varun, is working with an MNC.
