Taking a neutral stance and wary of being drawn into any controversy, Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda on Thursday said the government will not take any hasty decision with regard to the appointment of the Lokayukta.

“We will discuss the matter and then come to a decision on the appointment of the new Lokayukta. We will not take any decision in haste,” he said.

On whether the government has considered Justice R V Raveendran, a Supreme Court judge who retired last year, for the post, Gowda said no decision was taken on the matter and that it would have to be deliberated upon with legal experts. The chief minister and his wife, Datty Gowda, attended an evening of cultural programme at Ravindra Kalakshetra on the occasion of the 63rd Republic Day.

On being questioned about Justice Bannurmath’s name being rejected by the Governor for the post, Gowda said: “No comments.”
