Alumni Meet

When it comes to giving back to one’s alma mater, one can draw inspiration from the activities of the ‘Alumni Association’ of Christ University.

Recently, the Association had organised an alumni meet on January 26, which saw the reunion of old students from different batches.

The programme commenced with an invocation song presented by the college choir. Later, the Association members felicitated the faculty and non-teaching staff members, who had completed 25 years of service in the institution. Louis George, Assistant Dean of Studies in Science, and Joseph, a non-teaching staff were felicitated by the alumni members.

A surprise honouring ceremony was arranged for Thomas Mathew, Vice-Chancellor, Christ University who had also completed more than 25 years in the college. Two former alumni of the institution — Vinod Hayagriv, Managing Director, Krishniah Chetty and Sons and Sandeep Muralidharan, Vice-President, Golden Palms Hotel — were also honoured for their outstanding achievements in their respective fields.

The students of Christ College then entertained the crowd with captivating dance numbers. Sanjana and team from the college’s dance club Natyarpana presented a bharatanatyam recital on Kalinga Mardana from the Bhagavatha. Pholka, a retro dance team from the college led by Varsha, danced to a retro song. Prasad Mathew, a former student and a lawyer by profession, had come all the way from Kerala to attend the programme and played a couple of songs on the guitar.

“Being a Christite, I am glad about my academic lineage. This institution has given us a lot in terms of life skills, knowledge and confidence. Our association is very strong and is doing a great work to keep all the alumni in touch with the institution and the latest developments. Every year, I make a sincere effort to attend the alumni meet and bring some of my batch mates along with me. It is very important for a student to visit the campus to have a clear idea on what is happening in the college. And as the alumni day falls on January 26 every year, it is easy to attend the function,” says Harish, a student from 2005 batch.

The members of the Association also showed great hospitality to the alumni. A dinner was arranged to bring the alumni members closer and share the experience. Jugnu Uberoi, who has been serving as the president of the Association for the last 12 years, says that the Association has been enjoying the wholehearted support of the college and students alike.

“Apart from honouring teaching and non-teaching staff, the Association gives scholarships to students. We also organise ‘Fun Fiesta’ to entertain the faculty members every year along with organising health camps. We have also sponsored gold medals for the toppers. The management feels that it is the alumni community which creates a brand name and has the ability make or break the institution. We get support from each and every one associated with the college. And this particular event is like a family day for us and we enjoy meeting our old friends,” he says.
