Woman run over by BMTC bus

She had come from Mysore to distribute wedding cards

A woman, who was returning after distributing invitation cards for her daughter’s marriage, was killed on the spot when a BMTC bus ran over her in Kamakshipalya on Thursday evening.

According to police, Sujatha, 45, a resident of Mysore, visited her relatives and friends in Bangalore and distributed wedding cards. Later, when she tried to cross the road to catch a bus near Ambedkar College at Depot Complex in Nagarbhavi around 5:30 pm, a speeding bus knocked her down.

She was rushed to a private hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.
The bus driver has been arrested and the vehicle seized.

Truck mows down man

A man was killed instantaneously, and his father sustained injuries when a speeding truck struck them down at the  Byatarayanapura  junction on Thursday morning.

The deceased was identified as Yogish, 40, a resident of Muneshwara Block in Girinagar. He was running an eatery, police said.

Yogish had parked his motorbike on a one-way road at the junction and was standing near the vehicle with his father. A speeding truck, approaching the junction from Bellary Road, took a right turn and knocked down Yogish and his father.

The driver of the truck has been arrested.

Five held

The Central Crime Branch police arrested five men on the charges of selling pirated DVDs/CDs of recently released movies, and seized 4,450 DVDs from them, all valued at Rs five lakh.

The arrested are R Nagaraj from K P Agrahara, Prabhu S of Jalahalli, Kiran of Magadi Road, Balu of Kamakshipalya, and Krishna Naik of Moodalapalya.

Body found

The body of a 22-year-old missing man was found floating in a pond at Kogilu Layout near Yelahanka. The deceased was identified as Gopal, a resident of Kogilu Layout.

Gopal, a tailor at Sanjaynagar, had gone to answer the call of nature near the pond on Sunday afternoon. But he is said to have lost his balance, fallen into the pond, and drowned, police said.

As he failed to return home, his family members started searching for him. On Thursday, local residents noticed the body in the pond, and alerted the police.
