Techminds’, a two-day IT fest organised by the BCA department of Acharya Institute of Graduate Studies, was recently held in the City.

More than 350 students from 40 different colleges across the State took part in the fest.
The fest comprised six events: ‘Counter Strike’, ‘Image Mania’, ‘IT Quiz’, ‘Coding and Debugging’, ‘NFS’ and ‘Web Designing’.

‘Counter Strike’ was a gaming event, in which participants had to use gaming software to defend attacks from their enemies. 21 colleges took part in this event, and Tilak, Ajay, Madu Gowda and Sriram from Vivekananda Degree College emerged as the winners.

‘NFS’, or ‘Need For Speed’, was another gaming event. Manjunath S, also from Vivekananda Degree College, stole the first position in this segment.

Participants of the ‘Image Mania’ event had to design a web page for a particular product, for an advertising and marketing purpose.

While more than 30 teams participated in this event, Antony and Vinay Kumar, from Kristu Jayanti College, emerged as the winners.

The ‘IT Quiz’ was also a popular event, with about forty colleges participating.

Six teams showed off their technical knowledge and emerged as the finalists,
with the team from Christ University — comprising Raghav, Prashant, Ravi and Sudhanshu — stealing the trophy. The rolling trophy of ‘Techmind Fiesta-2012’ was bagged by Kristu Jayanti College.

Ravi, a student from Christ University, said that the experience of the fest was worth remembering. “We enjoyed it. All the events were technically-sound. I also enjoyed the food served in the two-day event,” he said.

Biju K Balan, the head of the BCA department, said, “The two-day fest witnessed a lot of enthusiastic participants from across Karnataka. Compared to the previous year, the turnout was more, and we expect even more in the coming year. It’s a significant development which creates more awareness among the students.”

Akasha, a final year student in the BCA department, who was also one of the organisers of the festival, said that the experience had been a learning one. “I’m proud to be an organiser of this festival, and I’d like to thank all the participants and my team for making the event a grand success,” she said.
